5 Reasons To Do The 2019 CrossFit Games Open

Last week, we introduced you to the world of the CrossFit Open.  And as we eagerly, albeit nervously, count down the days until the first workout is announced on the first day of the 2019 event, we wanted to offer a little more insight to those of you who may still be undecided about taking part.

Here are just five of the reasons we think you should take the plunge and sign up for this year's Open.

1) Build Camaraderie

The Open is a great chance for you to come in and work with your fellow athletes towards a common goal.  When you're all working to achieve the same thing, it's inevitable that you'll bond over the mutual aches, pains and learning experiences that the Open will inflict on us.  Your CrossFit community will become that much stronger for all the memories you make with each other.  Plus, here at CrossFit Awaken, we'll be dressing up according to different themes each week to mix it up and it's a ton of fun to coordinate with your friends ... what will you  wear?! (Hint, week one is a patriotic one.)

2.) Goals

Each Thursday when we learn the WOD, there will be a different set of movements that you'll personally try to hit in either a certain amount of time or weight.  Now, it may vary from person to person, but we will all set goals for ourselves.  Want to hit that workout prescribed?  That's an amazing goal to have.  How about shooting to get your first bar muscle-up?  Just as great.  Or, you may just want to get all the way through a workout before the time cut-off.  Another great personal goal to set.

3.) Gains

That's right, gains.  If you're pushing yourself to do your absolute best throughout the five-week Open, you will most definitely make gains in your fitness.  There's just something about the friendly competition that gets us moving and helps us overcome obstacles and mental roadblocks we may have been facing.

4.) See How You Rank

Think of the Open as a really, really big whiteboard where you can see not just the WOD scores from the athletes at your gym — but from tens of thousands of people from around the world.  Only this digital whiteboard is high-tech, and it allows you to customize your searches by division, country, scaled, RX, or athlete name.  As participants enter there own scores into the system after the week's workout, it can become addicting to refresh the results and see where everyone stands.

5.) Fun!

This is probably the most important reason of all to take part in the CrossFit Open.  Thanks to everything we mentioned above, and more, the Open is truly great fun.  Sure, it may become intense at times and our judges are going to hold you accountable for each rep of a movement— but when you are in the thick of it be sure to take a deep breath and look around.  Look around at all the people of different shapes, sizes and skill level taking part in this athletic challenge with you. Enjoy your friends and maybe take the time to get to know some of the other people that might typically attend class at at different time of the day than you.  Through it all you'll learn something about these other people, and about yourself.

So... did we help convince you?  There's still time to sign up before the Open starts on Feb. 21!  Just head to the CrossFit website here if you'd like to register.
